Description:

Braja Bandhu Manik was born in a Vaisnava family, surrounded by the chanting of the holy name and educated in the Srimad Bhaga- vad-gita, the Srimad-Bhagavatam, Sri Caitanya-caritamrta and Sanskrit from very early in life. In his later years, he severed all ties to his family, changed his name to Gour Gopalananda dasa and travelled the length and breadth of Bharata (India) in search of a self-realized soul (tattva-darsi guru) who could give him sannyasa. His life’s aspiration from childhood had been to take sannyasa and preach the mission of Sriman Gauranga Mahaprabhu. His search came to fruition in Vrndavana 1974 when he finally met his spiritual master, His Divine Grace Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who awarded him the sannyasa order of life in 1975 in Vrndavana.
